This fun and easy tour is available all year round and accessible both for beginners and experienced riders. Your tour guides will adjust the journey to the abilities of the group and make sure they never go faster than the slowest rider in the group, so no-one will be left behind. Iceland’s horses have developed over centuries, and there are very few diseases in Iceland. For that reason, no horses can be imported to the country, and if an Icelandic horse leaves the country, it can never return. For the same reason, riders are asked not to bring any horseriding gear they’ve used on horses abroad. The Icelandic horse is famous for being sturdy but friendly, having 5 walking/running gaits (as opposed to 3 in other horse breeds) and being rather small. It’s still a horse though, and not a pony! You’ll be able to try the Icelandic ‘tölt’ – a famous gait that is very smooth for the rider. You will ride in the surroundings of the small fishing village Þorlákshöfn (Thorlak’s Harbour) and explore the Icelandic nature. Þorlákshöfn is located on Iceland’s South Coast, situated 30 km (19 miles) away from Reykjavík, or only a 45-minute drive. The route you’ll take while on the horse will depend on the weather and season, but the surrounding nature of Þorlákshöfn is stunning, including some beautiful beach views, tall green grass banks, lava fields and beautiful mountains. This 3-hour tour provides you with a unique way to enjoy what Iceland has to offer and to create some unforgettable memories. Don’t miss your chance to get to know the Icelandic horse.
